On Wednesday, ICONA Resorts CEO Eustace Mita joined local merchants and community leaders to answer questions regarding the upcoming vote regarding the designation change for Wonderland Pier.

While addressing reporters, Eustace Mita underscored the necessity of the redevelopment designation, explaining that no development can move forward without it. He also confirmed reports that city officials quietly asked him to pause the sale of the property ahead of tomorrow’s meeting.

During the press conference, business leaders emphasized that the redevelopment designation is crucial to safeguarding the city’s long-term economic health. Merchants have cautioned that the ongoing limbo has already forced some businesses to shut their doors, adding that further delays could deepen the economic fallout.

Eustace Mita confirmed during the press conference that amusement rides are still planned for the resort, and that the estimated construction cost has risen to $170 million. As debate continues, a large turnout is expected from supporters and opposition groups at the City Council meeting set for 6 p.m. on Dec. 4th at the Ocean City Music Pier.

QUICK FACTS:

  • Eustace Mita affirmed the 18-month timeline to build the resort once construction begins.

  • Council Members Pete Madden, Jody Levchuk, and Tony Polcini expected to vote in favor of the resolution.
