BREAKING: Icona Mega-Hotel known as “Icona in Wonderland” expected to be built on Wonderland Pier.
Here’s what we know (LAST UPDATED 4:40PM EST):
The proposed hotel will have 252 rooms.
The total cost of the project could fall between $135M-$155M, and take 24+ months, according to Developer Eustace Mita
Mita plans to preserve iconic rides, including spending $1.5M to rebuilt the historic carousel, and spend another $1M to relocate and preserve the Ferris wheel.
Mita, who is a resident of Ocean City, is the owner of Icona Resorts, which operates hotels in Cape May, Avalon, and other communities.
“We want to make it a win for the state, we want to make it a win for the city, we want to make it a win for the merchants, and we want to make it a win for the people of the city,” Mita said.
→ So far, no formal proposal has been presented to the city’s Planning or Zoning boards, nor has it been discussed at a City Council meeting. However, council members have mentioned seeing renderings of the project.
