On Thursday, August 21st, City Council is planning to move forward with asking the Planning Board for their expertise on placing the “In Need of Redevelopment” designation on Wonderland Pier. This would be the first of many steps needed to gain approval for the anticipated Icona Resort.

Eustace Mita is not expected to make any type of proposal or presentation at this meeting. The city has made one thing absolutely clear, “City Council will not discuss or consider approval of any development for this site at this meeting.”

Over the last few weeks, ICONA pushed out an e-petition where users could sign in support. Recently formed organizations like “Ocean City 2050” have come out against the hotel, and are pushing for a more “family focused” use of the site.

Assuming City Council & Planning Board are in favor of the designation change for the site, this paves the way for a “Redevelopment Plan”.. which would likely be the time Eustace Mita proposes his plan for his 252-room mega-hotel.
