The Ocean City, New Jersey Police Department is using advanced drone technology to keep an eye in the sky.
The Ocean City, NJ Police Department now has multiple drones in use, monitoring crowds and public safety as the peak tourism season begins.
Lt. Mark Pancoast, who leads the department, had been an advocate for the technology and says the technology has already helped with assisting water rescues, locating fleeing suspects, and crowd control.
Still, this technology hasn’t won over everyone. Many online users have voiced concerns about misuse, overreach, and privacy. Addressing those concerns, Lt. Mark Pancoast has made it clear in past statements that “It’s not a toy” stressing the technology will only be used for official purposes.
