Ocean City, N.J. - Earlier this year, Ocean City residents began speaking out against a proposed 125-foot cellphone tower that was proposed for 3308 Bay Ave. Since then, over 1,200 have signed an online petition and dozens have spoken at City Council meetings pushing for an alternative location.


Over the last few months, advocacy around the project has exploded, notably with resident Liz Bonvetti launching an online petition against the cell tower that has collected nearly 1,300 signatures and a GoFundMe page which has $2,100 in donations, with funds being used exclusvely for attorney’s fees and legal expenses related to fighting the tower from being built.

One Facebook page, OCNJ Citizens Against Living Next to Cell Towers has continued to push for citizen advocacy at city meetings, as well as posting graphics citing safety issues, transparency concerns, and questions around the project.

Despite the outcry, the proposed location for the cell tower remains at 3308 Bay Ave, and has not been changed despite alternatives floated by residents. City Council and Mayor Jay Gillian have told constituents that they continue to explore alternative options.
