On Thursday, October 23rd, City Council voted 7-0 on a resolution declaring a local emergency to address the severe beach erosion in Ocean City, NJ. This resolution will grant additional resources to help address the issue of beach replenishment.

Since August, Ocean City beaches have been severely impacted by two storms, one hurricane and one recent nor’easter. There is currently another system that could potentially impact the area next week.

Minor Beach Replenishment on Wednesday, 10/22/25

At this point in time, there is zero federal funding approved for beach replenishment in 2026, and several local beach communities have reached out to local lawmakers.

Per the resolution, “..Ocean City says they lack the financial resources to independently implement largescale beach replenishment, dune restoration..”
