Over the past few years, there has been constant chatter about the condition of the current public safety building. The current building, located at 835 Central, is an old school building with over $35M+ needed in repairs.
In September, Mayor Jay Gillian & City Council discussed a $12M+ acquisition of 801 Asbury Avenue, placing them directly in the busy downtown district. After deliberation, the acquisition was called off on Sep. 30th.

Now, the city is now planning to demolish the current station at 835 Central Ave, and they will build a new facility at the site. Mayor Jay Gillian said the new station will be a “first-class facility” and will fall within the city’s budget.
The new $6M+ Police Substation at 8th & Boardwalk will handle several operations previously managed by the main station.

The city has made acquisitions to expand parking, and council continues to discuss changes to increase parking in the 2nd Ward.
